7 Ways to encourage children love nature and wildlife

Updated: Dec 7, 2020

Sensitizing children towards conserving wildlife and loving animals is an important part of parenting. India has some of the most diverse species of wildlife in the world and is taking steps to protect and conserve the habitats of some most endangered species. It is a good initiative to educate young minds about conservation for a better future. Following are some methods that can help with the same:

1. Make your kid explore the surroundings and teach them to identify local plants, trees, birds, or animals that they encounter. Ask your kids to maintain a diary to note down their observation and can learn more about it later.

2. Make them draw and let them create crafts on animals and birds, teach them some facts about those animals and birds they try to draw or create.

3. Plan to visit national parks and wildlife sanctuaries during vacations. This will help your kid in having practical knowledge and on-field experience, which can help them remember things they have read and understood.

4. Take your kid to visit the zoo or even wildlife centers near you regularly as they give opportunities for kids in volunteering with them. This can help kids understand wildlife more than they work with professionals.

5. Make your kids watch programs and documentaries by well-known organisations like National Geographic and Discovery channel, visual content can remain in your kid’s memory for a long time keeping because these videos are made for educational purposes and can be easily understood by them.

6. Involve your kids and make them take part in events like tree plantation, and NGO activities relating to nature and wildlife to have an on-field experience.

7. Involve your kids with the right people who can educate and motivate them in showing them the right path of knowledge to involve them in wildlife conservation and can choose their career if they are keen to it in the same.
